Fashion Sketches

If you any aspirations of becoming a fashion designer, then you are definitely in the right page.

To say that fashion sketches are important to a fashion designer is an understatement. Without such sketches, consider your dreams of entering the fashion world unrealized. The world of fashion has no room for individuals who do not have a creative bone in their bodies. Sometimes even creative minds are rejected which only shows that it is a cutthroat competition out there.

But do not lose hope yet. One of the best ways to prove that you have what it takes to make it in the fashion industry is to come up with fashion sketches which clearly convey your fashion designs. Lucky for you we have some tips on how to create fashion sketches that will open the gate to a career in fashion. (Or at the very least, a chance to make a great fashion portfolio.)

1. Drawing the figure.
Fashion sketches always include the figure. Unless you are extremely talented in drawing, we strongly advise you to just use a figure template. All you need is a copy of an existing figure template (which you can effortlessly get from a fashion magazine) and a tracing paper. Don’t worry. Many designers swear by this method.

2. Drawing the fabric.
Your creativity will be tested in drawing the fabric. You have to make sure that anybody who will see your fashion sketch can distinguish what kind of material you wish to use on that particular design. You can achieve this through the right shading depth and precise lighting effect.

3. Using colors.
Colors are your ally. Use them to your advantage. They can give movement to the model and also provide an illusion of a three-dimensional illustration.

You may be able to execute all these but the most important thing to remember is that fashion sketches are impossible to create if you do not have an idea what to sketch in the first place. Fashion sketches represents your designs so if your designs are not that great, they are ineffective. Before you dwell on these tips, focus on coming up with exceptional designs.
